About Angus
The Aberdeen Angus is a moderately sized breed of beef cattle originating from Scotland with records of this breed (or a similar cattle type in the area) dating back around 1000 years. They were first imported to Australia via Tasmania in the 1820s. They are hardy cattle and do well in some of the extreme climates Australia has to offer, particularly colder and mountainous regions. Cows typically weigh 500+ kilograms while bulls generally weigh around 800+ kilograms. They are a preferred cattle breed for beef due to their ease of breeding, quiet and calm temperament, their light red meat colour, and their propensity for even fat marbling through their meat. Angus cattle can have a black or red coat.
